InstaMoments – 2014 squared
Actually, there would always be #IGTravelThursday time on the first Thursday of the month. Well, the first Thursday was also the first day of the new year, which I started with a whisky porridge mixture in good Scottish style. I would guess that’s a good excuse for my little delay. Like Jana, I start the new year with a short review of the most beautiful Insta moments of the past year. For each month, I chose the picture that received the most likes from you. At this point, a huge thank you to you for all the hearts and comments you distribute throughout the year!
January
Even if the past winter on the northern side of the Alps is not exactly remembered as a magnificent specimen, at least it gave us a bomb day. Bright blue skies, freshly sugared fir trees and untouched deep snow awaited us on a Saturday morning in Mürren. You seemed to like that too.
February
In February, I travelled to Andermatt for the first time and did not miss the opportunity to drive a section of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn from Andermatt to the Nätschen station. It’s impressive how the cable car winds its way through the snow-covered mountains. Also on the bucket list is the goal of riding the entire route from Zermatt to Disentis.
March
In March I finally spent an afternoon with dear friends in my favorite city Thun. Kaffeeklatsch on the banks of the Aare. Home can be so beautiful.
April
Over the Easter holidays, we went on a trip through Austria, Slovenia and northern Italy by public transport. My highlight was Varenna on Lake Como. You also seem to think that this little place is simply wonderful.
May
May was all about an exciting journey through time across Switzerland. Luckily, I asked the owner of Villa Carona about his favorite viewpoint. Otherwise, we would have missed the magical morning atmosphere in Parco San Grato.
June
Yes, the ten days in Norway were tough. Not only did I fall head over heels in love with the colorful, rugged beauty of the country, but I also pushed myself to my limits. When I’m currently scrolling through my Instagram stream and come across impressive Northern Lights pictures (such as tightrope walking), I would love to beam myself into this fabulous country in no time.
July
Together with Lea, we were able to experience an unforgettable morning at Lake Fählensee in Appenzellerland. I still get goosebumps when I think back to the moment when the first rays of sunshine fought their way over the rugged rock faces and bathed everything in a golden shimmer. By the way, the spectacle was over after 10 minutes and continuous rain followed.
August
Catch the sunrise on the Matterhorn. That was the plan for August. Well, the sun didn’t really work out. You still seemed to like the picture.
September
Somehow, getting up early seems to be a common thread throughout the year. In September, we set the alarm clock for six o’clock to capture the morning atmosphere high above Lake Lugano.
October
More interestingly, this is the most liked picture of the last year. If you only knew how wet and frozen I was at the time I took this picture… in my shoes it splashed with every step.
November
After a mixed summer, autumn was merciful and surprised us with a few sunny days. The beautiful autumn atmosphere lasted until November thanks to mild temperatures. I took the opportunity to tick off another item on my mountain lakes bucket list with a detour to Lake Cresta.
December
And after a long, long wait for the first snow, the Christ Child fulfilled my wish just in time for Boxing Day and powdered it for a few days. Even I like Zurich ;).
Even though the snow in the lowlands has been cleaned away again, I am looking forward to a snowy start to the year in the mountains. I collect all winter pictures with the hashtag #MyMagicWinterDays. I have put together more travel inspiration for you in the post 15 travel ideas for 2015. Here’s to an eventful 2015!
