Collection of general information

As with any connection to a web server, the server of our web hosting provider cyon in Basel, Switzerland, logs and stores certain technical data. This data includes the IP address and operating system of your device, the data, the access time, the type of browser and the browser request including the origin of the request (referrer). This is necessary for technical reasons in order to provide you with our website. cyon uses technical and organizational measures to protect this data from unauthorized access and does not pass it on to third parties. To the extent that we process personal data in the process, we do so on the basis of our interest in providing you with the best possible user experience and ensuring the security and stability of our systems.

Cookies

Like many other websites, we also use so-called “cookies”. Cookies are small text files that are transferred to your hard drive by a website server. As a result, we automatically receive certain data such as IP address, browser used, operating system about your computer and your connection to the Internet.

Under no circumstances will the data we collect be passed on to third parties or linked to personal data without your consent.

Of course, you can also view our website without cookies. Internet browsers are regularly set to accept cookies. You can disable the use of cookies at any time through the settings of your browser. Please use the help functions of your internet browser to learn how to change these settings. Please note that some features of our website may not work if you have disabled the use of cookies.

SSL encryption

In order to protect the security of your data during transmission, we use state-of-the-art encryption methods (e.g. SSL) via HTTPS.

Comments

When users leave comments on the blog, the time of their creation and the username previously chosen by the website visitor are stored in addition to this information. This is for our safety, as we may be held liable for illegal content on our website, even if it is created by users.

Newsletter

When you register to receive our newsletter, the data you provide will be used exclusively for this purpose. Subscribers may also be informed by e-mail about circumstances relevant to the service or registration (for example, changes to the newsletter offer or technical conditions).

For an effective registration, we need a valid e-mail address. In order to verify that a registration is actually made by the owner of an e-mail address, we use the “double opt-in” procedure. For this purpose, we log the order for the newsletter, the sending of a confirmation e-mail and the receipt of the requested response. The data will be used exclusively for sending the newsletter and will not be passed on to third parties.

You can revoke your consent to the storage of your personal data and its use for sending the newsletter at any time. In each newsletter you will find a corresponding link. In addition, you can inform us of your request via the contact option provided at the end of this data protection notice.

Newsletter – Shipping Service Providers

The newsletter is sent via the mailing service provider “MailChimp”, a newsletter distribution platform of the US provider Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE #5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA. You can view the privacy policy of the shipping service provider here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/. The Rocket Science Group LLC d/b/a MailChimp is certified under the Privacy Shield agreement and thus offers a guarantee to comply with the European level of data protection (https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt0000000TO6hAAG&status=Active). The shipping service provider is used on the basis of our legitimate interests in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR and an order processing agreement in accordance with Art. 28 (3) sentence 1 GDPR. The mailing service provider may use the data of the recipients in pseudonymous form, i.e. without assignment to a user, to optimize or improve its own services, e.g. for the technical optimization of the dispatch and the presentation of the newsletter or for statistical purposes. However, the mailing service provider does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to write to them themselves or to pass on the data to third parties.

Newsletter – Measuring Success

The newsletters contain a so-called “web beacon”, i.e. a pixel-sized file that is retrieved from our server or, if we use a shipping service provider, from its server when the newsletter is opened. As part of this retrieval, technical information, such as information about the browser and your system, as well as your IP address and time of retrieval, is first collected. This information is used for the technical improvement of the services on the basis of the technical data or the target groups and their reading behaviour on the basis of their retrieval locations (which can be determined with the help of the IP address) or the access times. The statistical surveys also include determining whether the newsletters are opened, when they are opened and which links are clicked. For technical reasons, this information can be assigned to the individual newsletter recipients. However, it is neither our intention nor, if used, that of the shipping service provider to monitor individual users. The evaluations are much more useful for us to recognize the reading habits of our users and to adapt our content to them or to send different content according to the interests of our users.
