StrongmanRun – run preparation and chances of winning

Do you remember our announced spring challenge? In April, June 6 appeared even further away. But now we are approaching the upcoming FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun at breakneck speed. It’s time to take stock.

Trainingsstand

Over the past few weeks, we have gradually approached the topic of “running”. Previously only very sporadically on Zurich’s jogging routes, the boyfriend has been lacing up his running shoes quite consistently three times a week for the last few weeks in order to stick to the rough training plan. He followed the following strategy: once a week an interval training session of around 6 kilometres to work on speed, once a week a distance training session – an average of around 12 kilometres – to get closer to the distance, and once a loosening run at a lower pace. The Limmat circuit has turned out to be the clear favourite. Interestingly, we also realized that we are definitely not morning joggers. In the few attempts, the circulation gave up every time. The strength training that was actually planned next to it has been somewhat lost in the process. But he still has a little time to make up for these deficits.

We have already tested the full FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun distance of 18.5 kilometers. An ideal test route is the Greifensee circumnavigation, which measures exactly 18.2 kilometres. On a warm spring evening, the landscape is a dream and the route is nice and flat. At least we would have managed the distance once. The suspense remains as to how the obstacles affect the run.

Can I eat myself fit?

In the last few weeks, we have also been dealing with the topic of nutrition in parallel to our running training. What is the best thing to eat before, during, and after a run? It is advisable not to experiment with it on the day of the run, but to test beforehand what the body can tolerate and what in the stomach makes running feel best.

Before the run:

Pasta and rice in combination with vegetables are known to be suitable for replenishing carbohydrate stores. After some experimentation, we found a favorite recipe: Spelt spaghetti with carrot sauce garnished with roasted walnuts. Uncomplicated to prepare and very tasty (you can find the recipe here)

During the run / in between:

I stumbled across the recipe of the ultra-healthy coconut balls at the food blog Kuisine. The main ingredient is dates and desiccated coconut, which are formed into beads together with butter (small modification on my part, as I used normal butter) and water. A super energy kick! Not only during the run, but also as a snack before the evening round.

After the race

To quickly replenish the empty energy stores, fruits and carbohydrates are suitable. Our favorite for this is a banana mango smoothie supplemented with 1/4 cup of oatmeal. The whole thing is mixed together with soy milk and sweetened with a little honey to taste. And if you want to treat yourself to something else, you can serve fresh pancakes with fruit with the smoothie. Wonderful, I’ll tell you. At least my body is fit again in no time and is looking forward to the next run.

Laufvorbereitungen

The FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun will take place in Engelberg at an altitude of around 1,000 m above sea level. For acclimatization we will arrive on Friday. This gives us enough time on site to catch a first glimpse of the running area and maybe even one or the other obstacle. We will spend the night at the Hotel Bellevue-Terminus, which is the partner hotel of the event and in whose restaurant – the Yucatan – the pre-run party will take place on Friday evening. Although, we don’t want to overdo it with the celebration yet, otherwise in the end all the preparation was for the cat.

You want to be part of it?

The tickets for the FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun were in demand again this year and so the event has been sold out since the beginning of May. For all those who have lost their way here in a desperate search for tickets, there is now great news. I’m giving away 2 wildcards to a running duo! All you have to do is tell me here on the blog, over on Facebook or by mail to anita@travelita.ch with a comment what your proven meal is before the race. Do you fortify yourself with a banana? With an energy drink or a piece of chocolate? Give us your tips and with a little luck you will also become strong men and women.

The closing date for entries is Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Legal recourse is excluded. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the raffle. A cash payment of the prize is not possible. The winners will be notified by email and announced on Facebook.

Our participation in the race takes place in cooperation with FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun – as always, my readers can be sure that I always represent my views and enthusiasm.
