Travel inspiration – that’s where we’re headed in the fall
Slowly, slowly, summer is coming to an end – although it hasn’t really arrived here in Switzerland yet – and it’s time to let you in on my autumn plans. But before that, a short review of my Swiss summer destinations. At the beginning of June, I decided to visit the Gantrisch Nature Park, the Creux du Van, the Appenzellerland, the Haslital and the Twannbach Gorge. The Creux du Van fell victim to the constant rain for the time being, otherwise I visited all the places listed.
And what do I have planned for the next few months?
Summer skiing in Zermatt
No, you didn’t misread. A little more than three months without snow is enough, and since this summer doesn’t really want to get going anyway, we adapt to the weather. In addition to the skiing fun, a special kind of culinary experience is also waiting for us. A breakfast in the gondola – we are excited! The adventure starts tomorrow evening and keeps our fingers crossed that the weather on Saturday will at least cooperate to some extent.
And anyone who now thinks, “Gee, has it taken root in Switzerland and only goes to the mountains?!”, will be redeemed towards the end of August. With autumn, I am increasingly drawn to distant destinations again and I have some exciting destinations on my travel radar.
Swimming fun in Carinthia
Not only Switzerland has many lakes, but Carinthia is also rich in lakes. Lake Weissensee and Lake Millstatt are waiting for us. I ordered nice weather early!
Swabia
There’s not much more to say about it, is there? I venture – totally new territory for me – to the Swabian Alb. And by the way, I find this an extremely exotic destination just because of the spelling “Alb”, which takes some getting used to.
What moves South Tyrol
South Tyrol is always good for a surprise. The last time we stayed there in ice and snow. I’m curious to see what awaits me this time…
Fossils in Ticino
When we were in Ticino this spring, I discovered that at the southern tip of Lake Lugano there is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was previously unknown to me. Monte San Giorgio is one of the most important sites for marine fossils from the Middle Triassic. And since I’m a little wannabe geology nerd, I’m going to pay a visit to the mountain in September.
1001 Nights
In mid-September, things will get really exotic again. We fly for a few days into the colorful hustle and bustle of Marrakech. I have already read so much about the “secret” capital of Morocco and marveled at countless beautiful pictures and now I am all the more happy to get an insight into the fascinating oriental world.
Unknown Switzerland
I’m always amazed at how many Swiss regions I’ve never visited. These include, for example, the Vallée de Joux in Vaud. Let’s see if I can add a corner to my map of Switzerland in autumn.
Around the corner: Lombardy
Lombardy is one of the largest regions in Italy and borders directly on Switzerland. We already got a first impression during our train ride from Verona via Milan to Tirano in spring and are looking forward to visiting other beautiful places in this area at the beginning of October. In addition to the metropolis of Milan, Lombardy trumps with beautiful cities, such as Mantua, Monza (which has more than one Formula 1 race track to offer) and Cremona.
Have you already visited one of my goals and have any tips? I’m looking forward to your insider knowledge :)! And where do you want to go in autumn?
