Travel snapshot – Where the Maloja wind blows
There are those moments that are just perfect. We experienced such a moment last weekend at Lake Silvaplana – bright green meadows, warm sunshine, glittering water surface, breathtaking panorama with castle and a constantly gentle breeze that made my hair fly in all directions. That’s what freedom feels like.
Lake Silvaplana is located in the Upper Engadine at almost 1,800 m above sea level and is the middle of the three lakes in the Engadine Lake District. It may come as a surprise that at this altitude you will find a true kite and windsurfing mecca (on sunny days you can hardly see the lake because of all the kitesurfers). The reason for this is the Maloja wind, which is caused by the rapid warming of the steep mountain slopes and ensures the best wind conditions. I didn’t dare to surf this time, but who knows…
And where did you experience your last “perfect” moment?
