Art in the garden

New Orleans consists only of Bourbon Street, Jazz and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade? Far from it! New Orleans also offers art lovers from all over the world a wide range of works from all eras. On the edge of the approximately 5 km2 City Park (by the way, one of the ten largest parks in the USA) is the “NOMA” – New Orleans Museum of Art. However, we left the NOMA on the left, because there is a great outdoor sculpture garden right next to it – The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden – for which you do not have to pay an entrance fee.

There are several ways to get to City Park from the French Quarter. We took bus No. 91 at the northern edge of the French Quarter and paid $1.25 for the bus ticket.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter for a few hours, it’s best to come here in the morning hours and take a leisurely stroll through the sculpture garden, where around 60 different sculptures can be discovered. Among them are works by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Fernando Botero…

The works of art, some of which are very modern, stand in exciting contrast to the old oaks all around. A garden that exudes harmony and excitement, where you can relax wonderfully and don’t have to spend a cent on it (apart from the bus ticket to get there) – in my opinion, part of a visit to New Orleans.

Do you know of any other places where you can marvel at art for little to no money?
