Forte Village Resorts – Looking for sun in Sardinia
When I clicked through the website of the Forte Village Resort in the run-up to our short trip to South Sardinia, it triggered slight feelings of stress. Hotel, villa or bungalow? Seafood, Italian or the latest burger creation by Alfons Schuhbeck? Stand-up paddling, bike tours or a mud pack? Oh dear. Spoilt for choice. All I would have needed was a booking button “Please the all-round carefree package with lots of sun!”.
Forte Village Resorts: 8 different hotels and villas
After the rainy weeks, it was high time to recharge your vitamin D stores. And since the sun is still around here, a short trip to southern Sardinia came at the right time.
But the start of the journey was resinous. Online check-in was not available for the Zurich-Cagliari route with Edelweiss and at the airport the check-in machine refused to assign my name and booking number to the corresponding flight. So we had no choice but to queue in front of the help desk for about thirty minutes. On the other hand, the sun worked smoothly. After a one-hour flight, we landed in Cagliari and were greeted with a pleasant 25° Celsius and sunshine.
We were invited by the Forte Village Resort, which is about 40 minutes from Cagliari and is one of the World’s Leading Resorts. The complex includes eight hotels, villas and bungalows, pool areas, a wellness centre with thalassotherapy, extensive sports and leisure facilities and over 20 restaurants. The whole thing is embedded in a tropical park. In recent years, a large part of the resort has been renovated and has been completely renovated since this spring. We stayed at Il Castello directly on the beach and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious floor plan of our “Prestige Plus” room.
Early Happiness
It takes less than two minutes from our bed to the sandy beach. The best conditions for a relaxing beach holiday. And when South Sardinia spoils us with such a spectacle of colors in the early hours of the morning, happiness is perfect. I was also happy when my concerns that the resort would be too “big” for me vanished into thin air. The more than 1,000 guests who spend their holidays here at the same time are well spread over the extensive grounds. In addition, the individual hotels and villas are aimed at differentiated visitor segments. Couples can retreat to the Parco villa and parents can send their kids to the children’s area.
Beachtime
Sports enthusiasts will also be well looked after at the Forte Village Resort. Whether fitness, yoga, football, tennis, basketball or water sports – the infrastructure is available. The early morning yoga class on the artificial turf of the soccer field was not my cup of tea, but I experienced my moment of happiness on the stand-up paddle. I would have loved to paddle around Sardinia. But poof, the morning was over and it was time for lunch at the Beach Cumber Restaurant overlooking the turquoise bay. Pasta has won against the circumnavigation of Sardinia.
Pedaling along the coast – bike tour in Sardinia
After lunch, my second sporting highlight of the trip followed. Together with bike guide and Forte Village triathlon organizer Andrea, we pedaled against the wind towards Chia. The nasty gusts almost brought me to a standstill in between. It got exciting when we turned off the road onto a trail that led us to a great viewpoint between Chia and Perda Longa. Uphill I was faster with pushing and downhill I had to summon up all my courage to stay on the saddle. The effort was rewarded with the finest fresh figs ever. It’s possible that I’ll still be raving about this delicacy in 20 years!
More relaxation
After this exercise, we relaxed our muscles at the Acquaforte Thalasso Spa.
Dolce Vita Forte Village Style
After an intense sports programme and restoring your inner balance in the Thalasso Circuit, it’s time to dedicate yourself to the culinary delights. As mentioned at the beginning, the large selection of restaurants caused me more stress than anticipation. I am a friend of simple, reduced cuisine. In the Forte Village, Michelin-starred chefs from all over the world are at the stove in various restaurants during the high season. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite understand where who was cooking and when. And interestingly, I liked dinner at “Le Dune” (seafood) better than at the gourmet restaurant “Belvedere”. But it is. Tastes are different. The Cantina del Forte is charming, where over eight thousand bottles of wine from home and abroad are stored. If you are interested in wine, you should not miss a tasting of Sardinian wines. Cin cin!
The Forte Village surprised us positively with its sports offer. I would have liked to stay longer to cycle further along the coast and develop my biking skills. The resort not only offers the perfect backdrop for a week’s beach holiday with guaranteed sunshine, but is also a nice base to explore southern Sardinia individually by bike and/or rental car.
Note: The Forte Village invited us to this press trip. Thank you very much for this! As always, my readers can be sure that I always represent my views and enthusiasm.
