Charming skyline – La Petite France
Since the weather in Switzerland was absolutely great this weekend, I didn’t feel like spending much time in front of the computer and decided to sweeten Monday for you with a nice photo and three short travel tips.
Last September I was in Strasbourg for the first time, which is actually incomprehensible, since the train journey from Basel takes only 1.5 hours. So my first tip: If you don’t have a well-planned Saturday program, go to Strasbourg spontaneously, it’s definitely worth it!
For me, the most charming district of Strasbourg is clearly La Petit France. The photo shows one of the rows of houses of Petite France along L’Ill. I would move into an apartment in one of these cute houses in a heartbeat! My second tip is: Buy lunch in one of the many bakeries or other specialty shops and then sit down on the banks of the L’Ill and enjoy the great “skyline”.
Petit France used to be a dark and unpopular tanning district. Supposedly, bandits found shelter here in the Middle Ages and there was a notorious red-light district. Today, there is not much of that to be felt, it only becomes uncomfortable when too many tourists crowd through the narrow streets. That’s why my third tip: Visit Petite France in the early hours of the morning. Until about 11 o’clock the alleys are almost deserted and you can stroll around without any problems.
