Chicer Bergsommer – Nira Alpina

Discover mountain worlds – that’s my motto for this summer and I don’t just want to show you beautiful landscapes, but also introduce you to great hotels. The first is the design hotel Nira Alpina in Silvaplana (10 minutes from St. Moritz). How I was looking forward to this stay! As a Bernese Meitschi, I know the Bernese Oberland, the Valais, the Jura – but the Upper Engadine?! No, somehow the Upper Engadine is not so familiar to me yet…

So on Friday we took the train to Silvaplana. The train journey from Zurich to St. Moritz takes around 3.5 hours. Definitely not a waste of time, because the way to St. Moritz/Silvaplana leads over the Albula route of the Rhaetian Railway, which is a spectacular part of the UNESCO World Heritage route Albula/Bernina.

The Nira Alpina is located at the foot of the Corvatsch (with a direct connection to the mountain railway) above Lake Silvaplana. After we had overcome the first hurdle and found the entrance (yes, the entrance was hidden behind a wooden house, which blocked our view), the chic mountain weekend could start.

The rooms – we had a Corvatsch room with a balcony and phenomenal views – are nice and simple in design. With the use of natural materials, a symbolic connection to the Engadine mountains is created and yet the Nira Alpina clearly stands out from the “chalet style”. Well, we felt comfortable in our room and slept great thanks to the mountain air and silky soft bedding.

The next morning we started with a leisurely breakfast. Croissants, muesli and latte macchiato – check, it fits! The breakfast buffet is plentiful, and cheese lovers will also get their money’s worth.

Freshly strengthened, the flight of fancy followed. The best thing about the Nira Alpina is that, thanks to the direct connection between the hotel and the Corvatschbahn, you can go from 0 to 100 within a few minutes, so to speak. The view from the summit at around 3,300 m above sea level over the Upper Engadine is fantastic. From the middle station, beautiful hiking trails lead through the breathtaking landscape. I have made a note of the panorama trail from the Corvatsch middle station to the Furtschellas mountain station for the next time.

Back from the mountain, we first relaxed at the Nira Spa. A hot tub with a view, a steam bath and a sauna are available to hotel guests. Well, depending on the weather, it could get pretty tight here in between. Since we started early in the morning and were back at the hotel rather early, we were lucky enough to have the wellness area all to ourselves.

On the top floor of the Nira Alpina is the culinary heart of the hotel – bar and restaurant with mountain views – so you have to enjoy the view and be careful not to forget the food. On the first evening we tried our way through the tasting menu in the restaurant “Stars”. For 65 CHF per person, you get eight courses, which you share. The dishes take you on a culinary journey through the world. Great concept that I really liked.

If you’re not in the mood for sumptuous meals and prefer to eat small bites while chatting, you’re in good hands in the rooftop bar right next to the restaurant. Be sure to take a look at the cocktail menu! In addition to great alcoholic creations, there is also homemade iced tea – and you know, you can conquer my heart with homemade iced tea. We also tasted our way through the “appetizers” here – as you can see ;).

Note: This trip was supported by Hotel Nira Alpina – Thank you very much for this. As always, my readers can be sure that I always represent my views and enthusiasm here.
