What to do in Thun? Sights and excursion tips

Almost every day, visitors (maybe also you?) land on my blog with exactly this search term and I think to myself every time a) what a question! and b) hopefully he has found something to “do”. Among the locals, one thing is clear: “just do nothing is more beautiful than tuna”. My last post about Thun was almost exactly two years ago and since I recently realized with horror that I don’t even know where to find the best ice cream in town, I once again dedicated myself to the charming gateway to the Bernese Oberland last weekend.

The occasion was the Geoblog readers’ trip, where we climbed a volcano (yes, the Lake Thun region even offers two kinds of volcanoes – one has a namesake in Italy and the other looks like one, at least visually). The entertaining hike from Heiligenschwendi over Vesuvius to the Krindenhof and from there on to the Panorama Suspension Bridge Sigriswil showed me once again that even regions known to us are always good for surprises. It was my first time on Mount Vesuvius and also my first time at the Krindenhof. By the way, if you like to discover new Swiss places while doing puzzles, then take a look at the Geoblog.

Back in Thun, I took the opportunity to take a walk through the city in glorious sunshine and once again visit my favourite places – such as the charming AEK Café on the Aarequai. Now I’m up to date again and know where to get the best ice cream in town.
