Key West by bus from Miami – Florida
The trip to Key West is a must on a trip to Florida. Most travelers usually take a few days to drive to Key West and back, which is certainly worth it. Unfortunately, the trip to Key West only fit into the day immediately after our arrival at Miami International Airport.
Since we had a relatively late arrival time and the jet lag affects the ability to concentrate, it was a bit too critical for us to book a car for this long drive (round trip from Miami a total of about 550 km). We then decided to book the “Key West 1 Day” tour with the Miami Tour Company. This offer includes round-trip transportation from Miami to Key West including a 6-hour layover in Key West for $69 per person. I made the booking directly with the company from Switzerland and was very curious afterwards whether the pick-up at the hotel would actually work out or whether I had put my money in the sand.
After a short night (the entry into the USA took its time…), we waited punctually in front of our hotel for the bus, which actually came (and was only 15 minutes late). The drive to Key West was very pleasant and offers beautiful views of the coastal landscape. The bus had air conditioning and the seats were fine. The only stop on the way was at a Mc Donalds.
Was the time in Key West worth it?
Key West itself is a pretty town that is a bit too flooded with tourists for my taste. We then took a circular route on foot to the various sights. In front of the landmark with the inscription “90 miles to Cuba” at the southernmost point of the mainland of the USA, you had to stand in line to take photos. I definitely didn’t do that. In the evening, the whole village meets to admire the sunset, so our bus waited until after sunset to leave. Unfortunately, the wait was not worth it because there were too many clouds and too much haze (see photo above).
