Galata Kulesi – Galata Tower in Beyoglu

As always, when I visit a city, I first have to get an overview from above. This is also the case in Istanbul. One of the best 360° panoramic views far over the city is offered by the Galata Tower in the Beyoğlu district. Not to be overlooked, it towers over the western center of Istanbul.

Originally part of the city’s fortifications, the ancient tower now serves as an observation tower and restaurant. The entrance fee is around 12 TL and you can go up by lift. The nice thing about the Galata Tower is that the view over the city can really be enjoyed from outside and not just through glass panes. Since there is not too much space at the top, it is worthwhile to head for the tower in the off-peak hours in the morning or evening. A fantastic view over the roofscape, the mosques, bridges, ships and over to “Asia” are guaranteed and makes you see Istanbul as a kind of miniature country.
