Heat build-up? 5 mountain lakes that guarantee cooling off

There is sweating, there is moaning, people are looking for cooling. Summer has Europe in its grip this week. Bright blue skies and temperatures in the 30° Celsius range. And as much as I appreciate the summer weather, I long for a refreshment. Working in an office that is not air-conditioned is a real challenge on such days. And since the heat wave turns up another round towards the weekend, I have put together five refreshing excursion tips for you here. Grab your hiking boots, bikini, a beach towel and an exciting book – and then: off to the mountains!

Talalpsee

Located in Glarus at an altitude of 1,100 metres in the middle of a magnificent mountain landscape. The Talalpsee can be reached either on foot or by chairlift from Filzbach. From Zurich to Filzbach it takes just under 1.5 hours by train. Next to the lake there is a small mountain restaurant and if you continue hiking for 30 minutes in the direction of Habergschwänd after cooling off in the mountain lake, you can ride down the valley on a scooter.

One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland is located above Braunwald. The Oberblegisee can be combined with various hiking routes and is a real natural paradise.

Klöntalersee

The ascent from Riedern along the Löntsch to the Klöntalersee takes just under an hour. Around the 4 km long reservoir there are two campsites and various restaurants. The wide gravel bank strip is easily accessible on the west side and is ideal for spreading out the bath towel.

Murgsee

If you want to escape the heat a little longer, I can recommend the high-altitude hike from the Maschgenkamm via Hoch Camatsch to Murg am Walensee. Ideally, the tour is divided into two stages and spent one night in the Murgseehütte with a view of the Upper Murgsee. The Talalpsee and the Murg lakes can be combined on the Sardona World Heritage Trail.

Seelisbergsee

At an altitude of almost 750 metres opposite Morschach on Lake Uri lies the Seelisbergsee – also called “Seeli”. Bathing is only allowed in the lido area, which is located at the northern end of the lake. On the other hand, the shallow water ensures that the mountain lake is pleasantly warmed up to 24° Celsius. Who wants to go to the Mediterranean?
