Hotel Seehof – Wellness summer start with snow and ginger beer in Davos
First of all: Yes, I know that the astronomical beginning of summer will take place in just under a month. Nevertheless, we wanted to ring in our Swiss mountain summer at Pentecost with a pass ride including hiking stops. The first stage stop should be Davos, because I have wanted to visit the Sertig Valley there for a long time. The traditional four-star superior Hotel Seehof also hoped for good Whitsun weather. They were one of the few hotels in Davos to start the summer season on the Whitsun weekend. But the weather doesn’t always do what you want and so we reached a cloudy Davos after an entertaining drive through the Prättigau. The air cool and humid. Definitely not hiking weather.
A guest at the traditional Hotel Seehof in Davos
Therefore, there was no need to rush and we were able to take our time with the check-in and examine our room in peace. The bad weather forecasts not only threw a spanner in the works for me, but also gave the Hotel Seehof a moderately successful start to the new season. Who wants to go to Davos when you can still see pictures of snow everywhere? Well, we had the pleasure of staying in the spacious Stifler Suite. Named after Georg Stifler, under whose leadership the Seehof experienced its heyday in the up-and-coming spa town of Davos at the end of the 19th century. Even today, the hotel stands for tradition, a touch of luxury and hospitality. The only thing I find a pity is that in 2011 a carpet was again chosen as part of the complete renovation in favor of a detailed renovation. But that’s a matter of taste.
Attractions around Davos
After we have fortified ourselves with a piece of Graubünden nut cake, we venture outside into the cold. We postpone the originally planned hike from Sertig Dörfli to Monstein – part of the Walser Trail – to another time. Instead, we treat ourselves to a Sertiger Capuns and a Malanser Linzer cake in the snow-covered Sertig Dörfli in the cosy parlour of the Zum Bergführer restaurant. We had already tried the famous blueberry cake in Monstein – also a bad weather option – on our last visit to Davos. Since we as hotel guests have received the Davos Card, with which you can travel free of charge on all open mountain railways during the day, we take the opportunity and spontaneously make a detour to the Schatzalp. Actually, you would enjoy a fantastic panorama over Davos from here. But Peter does not allow himself to be argued.
Pampering programme à la Seehof with wellness
Back at the Seehof, we warm up again in the Seehof’s wellness area. The whirlpool with a black and white motif of the Wolfgang Pass as a background is simply fantastic. There is also a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, a steam bath, experience showers and foot baths. In winter, when everyone meets here at the same time after skiing, it can get quite crowded. Now in the low season, we have the wellness area virtually to ourselves. A very big plus goes to the relaxation room. I think it’s great when there are gossip books lying around on the tables and I can read up on what’s going on with the celebrities in a totally relaxed way.
I am definitely blown away when I am presented with the new summer drink. Homemade gingerbeer – chapeau! I’m a big gingerberry fan and appreciate it when I get homemade drinks in restaurants. With this, the Hotel Seehof has picked up on a beverage trend at an early stage and with the beautiful sun terrace right next to the Parsennbahn, it offers the ideal location on warm summer evenings to toast with a refreshing gingerbeer after a strenuous day in the mountains. (After all, a cold spring is followed by a glorious summer, right?). We, on the other hand, snuggle up in the comfortable upholstered armchairs, look at the crackling fireplace and test ourselves through an excerpt from the new appetizer menu of the Chesa restaurant. Conclusion: excellent!
The next day we start early. Breakfast will be served directly to the table this weekend in a pretty étagère. A large buffet is dispensed with due to the lower occupancy rate at the beginning of the season, which I think makes sense in terms of sustainability and food waste. Nevertheless, we lack nothing, because everything our heart desires that is not on the cake stand is served separately. Well fortified, we continue our way over the Flüela Pass in the direction of the Engadine.
If you are also in the mood for a break in the healthy mountain air of Davos, you will find some exciting packages at the Hotel Seehof. From “Time for Two” to “Girlfriend Days” and “Jazz Hiking Week” to “Davos by Bike”, there is something for everyone.
Note: I was invited by the Hotel Seehof for this stay – thank you very much for this. As always, my readers can be sure that I always represent my views and enthusiasm here.
