Nyon snapshot
When I’m not traveling abroad, I love to discover Switzerland. The great thing about Switzerland is that we are relatively small and most places are very well connected to public transport. So you can reach most places relatively well as part of a day trip.
Recently, I visited the small town of Nyon in French-speaking Switzerland, on Lake Geneva, for the first time. Nyon has a lot to offer, but for me as a “history freak” (I didn’t have 5 years of Latin at school for nothing…) the many excavations and sights from the time of the Romans and Helvetians were especially exciting. I mean, who would suspect Corinthian columns in Nyon? These columns are reminiscent of the Roman era, when Julius Caesar founded a colony called Iulia Equestris in the territory of today’s Nyon.
I really like the photo because when I look at it, I have the feeling that it was taken in Greece or Rome (especially because of the almost cloudless blue sky). Do you also have such photos that remind you of a completely different place than the photo actually shows?
