Onset of winter in Seefeld

At the end of October, we traveled to Seefeld in Tyrol for a weekend trip. Seefeld may already be known to some as the venue (together with Innsbruck) for the Winter Olympics. The village is located on a high plateau 30 minutes by train from Innsbruck and is a popular winter sports resort. However, the region also offers a wide range of hiking and climbing activities in summer. So I was excited to go on a beautiful autumn hike and enjoying the great mountain panorama.

Unfortunately, nothing came of the beautiful plans, as the first onset of winter took place exactly this weekend. Since it was definitely too cold for the Kneipp path, we first strolled through Seefeld, where a few really nicely painted houses can be admired. Unfortunately, due to the low season, there was not too much going on, and the village seemed a bit deserted. I think there will certainly be an entirely different atmosphere in winter.

Right at the entrance to the village is the Seefeld Wildsee, where you can also swim in summer. The Kaiser Maximilian Trail runs around the lake, a themed trail that provides information about the history and the local flora and fauna with various boards and leads through the special natural landscape. We braved the heavy snow flurry and tackled the circular route. Unfortunately, due to the fog we didn’t see anything of the great mountain panorama, but squirrels provided amusement (they were probably just as surprised by all the snow as we were).

The circular route takes about an hour and is suitable for families with children and older people, as well as for “Sunday hikers”. Afterward we visited the Seekirchl, one of the landmarks of Seefeld, which is located near the Olympic baths. After this tour, we looked like snowmen and were happy to return to our hotel with great wellness facilities (Krumers Post). However, it has been shown that there are enough outdoor activities available in Seefeld even for the worst off-season weather. However, you should pack the appropriate clothing for this. That’s why I was thrilled about my new, great, super warm Sessun winter jacket, which was immediately subjected to an extensive weather test :-)!
