Photo Essay – Lisbon in a retro look

So, before I start traveling in April, May and June – yes, there is a lot planned – I take the opportunity to finally get rid of “old burdens”. It’s been almost a year since our trip to Portugal and yet I haven’t gotten around to showing you everything yet.

When I’m out with my boyfriend, we choose about the best thirty images every night, which we then import into Lightroom and edit briefly. Although, editing is actually too broad. Usually, a few clicks are enough to optimize the image (darken highlights, lighten shadows, white balance, sharpen, lens correction). We practically never use filters and other special effects. Sure, you could put a lot more into this phase and experiment until the picture becomes a small work of art.

Regarding the use of filters, the friend and I do not share the same opinion. Personally, I think that filters, used with the right amount, give nice results. I think it’s important that a theme is pulled through and that you don’t jump back and forth between black and white, HDR and candy filters (but tastes are different there too).

I was able to persuade him to edit the following pictures a little more intensively. I think the result reflects the mood of Lisbon very nicely. How do you like Lisbon in a retro look?

In the terrace café in the lower part of the Jardim do Torel (Esplanada do Torel) you can get delicious sandwiches and a great view for free

In Belém, I experienced a Pastel de Nata odyssey. Otherwise, the district offers many seafaring stories and architectural gems, such as the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos

My insider tip: Take the ferry over to Almada. In addition to the wonderful view from the platform of the Cristo Rei statue, there are great photo opportunities of abandoned buildings along the long quay walls

You will also find a great photo opportunity in the northwestern district of Amoreiras. Here you will find the impressive “Aqueduto das Águas Livres”
