The Swiss summer bucket list
Summer is just around the corner! The time of year when many have been looking forward to the long-awaited beach vacation for months, or are eagerly awaiting their road trip through the States.
What, you don’t have any travel plans yet? Welcome to the club. Me neither. Summer belongs to Switzerland. And so that we don’t get bored, I’ve created a list of ideas. Here’s to wonderful summer moments and lots of fun hours of sunshine!
#1 Jump into a mountain lake with a loud cheer
#2 Eat ice cream – e.g. in the Gelateria di Berna (and where can you get the best ice cream in Zurich?)
#3 visit an open-air theatre on a warm summer evening
My guess is that “The Matterhorn Story” will be a highlight in Zermatt. On the Ballenberg, Ueli the farmhand is played and on the Thun lake stage, Romeo & Juliet is romantic. And the Tell Games in Interlaken are a classic.
#4 order a swimming bag and let yourself drift down the Aare / Limmat / Rhine
#5 Walk through the summer rain on the barefoot hiking trail
#6 Spend the night in a tent somewhere in the middle of nowhere
#7 climb a summit – e.g. Vrenelisgärtli 2904 m.a.s.l.
… and sit on the bench in front of the Glärnischhütte and watch the sunset
#8 Float through lofty heights with the gondola
e.g. on the multi-day cable car hike in Uri or the convertible version of the Stanserhorn cable car
#9 Do nothing in Thun – no Swiss city is more beautiful in summer
By the way, Thun also has the most beautiful lido in Switzerland with a great beach volleyball facility and a phenomenal view of the peaks of the Bernese Alps.
