Travel snapshot – Hello Sand(e)man

No, this is not an advertisement, although it might seem like it. As we strolled through the beautiful streets of Porto, Zorro suddenly appeared before my eyes. Yes, indeed, there was a man in a long black coat and hat, who brought a wine glass to his mouth with relish – large against a house wall. The Don.

No gentleman would fit better into this city than the distinguishing mark of the Sandeman trading company, designed by George Massiot-Brown. The trading company was founded in 1790 and specializes in Portuguese and Spanish wines and spirits.

Sandeman then accompanied me on the one hand with this imposing distinguishing mark and on the other hand in liquid form as port wine on my discovery tour through Porto and remains in my sympathetic memory. For this reason, the Don has earned the snapshot spot.

Have you ever discovered advertising on building façades that advertise much more than just a product in terms of symbolism, but have taken on the function of a public identification mark?
