Tuesday Snapshot – Isla Ometepe

My journey through Central America is associated with countless great moments and experiences. For me, Guatemala in particular is one of the most amazing countries I have traveled to so far. In addition to Guatemala, I also found a little paradise in Nicaragua and as it is in paradise, everyone is totally relaxed – even the horses. This paradise is called Ometepe, is located in Lake Nicaragua and is the largest volcanic island in a freshwater lake.

The island is dominated by the two volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas, the former being one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua. My tip is to rent a bike in the main town of Altagracia and then ride around the island. Along the way, you will pass through lava cones, pretty villages and unspoiled nature. If you need to cool off on the way, you should definitely head for the river pool beneath Finca Magdalena. Nowhere else can you relax so much in a hammock in the middle of the tropical rainforest!
