Advent tip: atmospheric Salzburg mountain Advent
While a pre-Christmas hustle and bustle breaks out in the cities in December, which has little to do with contemplation and Christmas anticipation, Salzburg’s mountain Advent offers a pleasant contrasting programme. During the Advent weekends, the tranquil village centre of Grossarl is transformed into an atmospheric Advent market.
In addition to the beautifully decorated stalls, where all kinds of traditional delicacies and handmade Christmas gifts are offered, the adjacent buildings are also integrated into the market. There is, for example, the Christkind post office, where a delightful blond curly girl dressed as an angel receives the children’s wishes and makes sure that the letters reach the right recipient. On the other hand, a sweet romp is organized in the children’s bakery in the basement of a bakery…
After a leisurely stroll through the market, I treat myself to a bag of freshly made potato spirals and walk up the candle-lined crib path to the parish church. The beautiful view over the darkening and sparkling Grossarl makes even me a Christmas market lover. Therefore, my recommendation – If you are looking for a special Advent experience away from the hustle and bustle of urban Christmas markets and prefer original, traditional products to plastic junk, then the Salzburg Mountain Advent is just right for you!
Note: I was invited to Salzburg by Austria Tourism. Thank you very much for this. Nevertheless, my readers can be sure that I always represent my own opinion and enthusiasm here.
