Arriving at the Golfhotel les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA is as straightforward as it gets. Thanks to the GoldenPass Express, you can reach Saanenmöser station from Zurich twice daily with just one transfer in Spiez in 2 hours and 42 minutes. Once you arrive at the station, it feels like all you have to do is turn around, and you’re already in the hotel lobby.

The attention to detail is evident right upon arrival. A drinking fountain gurgles in front of the entrance, where you can refresh yourself with a sip of spring water after a sporty day in the mountains – and right next to it is a water bowl for our four-legged friends. “Dogs are welcome here,” host Andrea Sprenger later confirms my first impression and adds, “and on top of that, we have homemade dog biscuits.”

Whether sporty, elegant, with children or dogs – the guests at Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA are a diverse mix, and the atmosphere is correspondingly familial. And so, among the total of 57 rooms, there’s almost the right option for every need. Our double room is in the main building and impresses with a generous floor plan including a seating area with cozy armchairs and a magnificent view of the mountains of the Saanenland. Relaxing Afternoon Hours in the Wellness Area

After hiking comes relaxation. Back at Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA, I treat myself to an iced coffee “Golfhotel” on the panoramic terrace. Host Andrea Sprenger had made it sound appealing the day before with “the best in the region,” and it did not disappoint. In my opinion, the iced coffee impresses with the perfect “creaminess.” Afterward, we head to the wellness area. This space offers everything I desire for relaxation on 1,000 square meters. Highlights include the beautifully designed flower and herb sauna and the soothing candle massage, which I will enjoy over the next hour. What a treat! The nice weather then draws us to the sun loungers in the garden, where I spend the rest of the afternoon reading.

Well Packed – Hiking Fun with the Fondue Backpack

We want to make the most of our time in the Gstaad Saanenland vacation region right up to the last minutes. Thus, we decide to go on another hike before our journey home – this time equipped with the fondue backpack. An experience we fondly remember from previous visits to the region. The Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA prepares a fully equipped fondue backpack for its guests upon request by the evening before. Our destination is not one of the oversized cauldrons scattered throughout the region, but a cozy fireplace on the shore of the Klein Simme. It is located along the route towards Hundsrügg, about 50 minutes’ walk above the hotel. Instead of the direct route, we choose a scenic hike that begins in Mittelberg at Abländschen and leads over the Bire into the Simnegraben. The panorama on this route: a solid 10/10! And we could not have wished for a cozier shady spot than the fireplace by the Simne for this fondue fun!

Delicious Drinks and Fine Dining

After such an action-packed afternoon, we more than deserve a relaxed end to the day at Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA. We begin with an aperitif in the fireplace bar. The bar menu includes classics as well as seasonal drinks and Swiss specialties.

The mild summer evening invites us to enjoy dinner outdoors on the panoramic terrace. Half-board guests can freely compose their 5-course dinner menu à la carte from the regular menu. The menu includes a daily recommendation as well as a nice, though concise selection of various salads, soups, meat and fish dishes, and vegetarian and vegan options. We let the “house specialties” guide our choices on the first evening, ordering Heidi salad, house-smoked salmon, pork sausage, and Turbach shredded meat. And for a refreshing finale, I opt for a semi-frozen vanilla treat.

And yes, despite being more than satisfied, we’re already looking forward to the second evening when we’ll enjoy more enticingly sounding creations.

Breakfast Bliss at Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA

The next morning seamlessly continues from the previous evening, with a view of the Rüblihorn, the Gummfluh, and the Staldenflühe, and fine dining. The breakfast buffet offers an appealingly presented and very harmonious selection of regional specialties (including mountain cheese from our own alp), sweet and savory dishes, and fresh fruit. And of course, I take the opportunity to try a homemade meringue with double cream. Yes, we are thrilled!

And off to the Horneggli Panorama Trail

Well-fortified, we set off to tackle the Horneggli Panorama Trail. For this, we take the train to Zweisimmen, just 20 minutes away. Thanks to the Gstaad Card, which we received upon arrival, we can use this route free of charge. Then, it’s up to the Rinderberg by cable car. The use of mountain railways is not included in the Gstaad Card – the uphill journey costs 34 CHF for adults (half price with a half-fare card/GA). The ride on what was once Europe’s longest gondola lift is always an experience. At the top, the first signpost directs us up a steep 15-minute climb towards “Hindere Spitz”. Don’t let this discourage you. Once at the top, not only a grandiose 360-degree mountain panorama awaits, but also a truly beautiful path across the Gandlouenengrat to Alp Parwenge. Wow – what a hiking pleasure. Yes, the Horneggli Panorama Trail delivers on its promise.

On the subsequent trail section, we enjoy a beautiful view of the Giferspitz and the Turbach Valley. The Horneggli Panorama Trail continues past Hornberg to the Horneggli chairlift. With this, you can comfortably ride down to Schönried, or – as we decided spontaneously – continue the hike downhill towards Saanenmöser. Either way: it’s a varied tour that you definitely shouldn’t miss during a detour to the Gstaad Saanenland region!
