Halligland on Instagram

“Are you lost?” Mrs. Hibbel asked me in horror when she saw my first Instagram picture of the “Halligland”. No, of course I didn’t get lost, because I like variety. After all the mountains, some foresight was required and where better to find that than in the middle of the North Sea. In the middle of the North Sea, the nail really hits the head, because the Halligen are flooded during storm surges. Down the country it is called so nice and this usually happens three to five times a year. To ensure that belongings are not destroyed every time, the Hallig people live protected on so-called terps up to six metres high. The terps are the only elevations far and wide. Otherwise, it’s plain flat.

I have only made the mistake of calling the Hallig an island once, thanks to the unequivocal rebuke of a resident. On the Hallig you are not on any island, remember that!

What there is to see on the Halligen, why Hallig-hopping is incredibly fun and why I can recommend a visit to the Halligen, you will soon be able to read here. Due to our unbelievable flood of pictures (so many great things jumped in front of our lenses), there is now a short attunement in the form of an Instagram best-of-Hallig edition.

Note: The trip to the Halligen was supported by Nordsee Tourismus and the Halligen – thank you very much for this. As always, my readers can be sure that I always represent my views and enthusiasm here.
