Insta summer: review and outlook
Bombastic! Dear summer 2015, you were really great. My July and August travel program was Switzerland-focused (with a small outlier to South Tyrol) and very outdoors-oriented. A lot of things could have fallen through, but the weather was merciful to us this season. In this respect, I can look back on a lot of great summer moments. Among the highlights are the weekend in the Lötschental and the hike along the Toggenburg High Trail with overnight stays in huts. In addition, we finally got to know the Fribourg region better and hiked through the Reuss Valley of Uri, so to speak. And that’s why today I’m taking the opportunity to look back on the summer with my favorite Instagram pictures. Are you ready for a full load of #summervibes? Et voilà:
Gastlosen
Urnersee
Isenthal
Crans-Montana
Lötschental
Grimsel and Aletsch Arena
Toggenburg
Seefeldsee
Gompm Alm
And which destinations are next on our agenda? We are currently travelling to Serbia for a few days. After that, there are two autumnal hiking weekends in Saas Fee and in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. At the end of October we will go to Andalusia to the sun and shortly before Christmas a girls’ trip to Rome is planned. And who knows what else will spontaneously come up until the first snowflakes ring in winter (the anticipation for the white season is already great).
And last but not least, I would like to make two comments about Instagram. On the one hand, there is the acclaimed innovation that landscape and portrait images are now automatically fitted into the feed. Well, what can I say. I think it’s stupid. I still like square best. On the other hand, there is the accumulation of accounts that use aggressive follow-unfollow strategies and bots to push up their Instagram follower numbers at a dizzying pace, forgetting that a ratio of 20k followers to 150 likes per picture just looks shit. Honestly, what is the goal of such follower building? Invitations to Instagram trips? Free goodies? Fame and glory? I don’t understand it and wonder what’s “social” about it. That’s why I’m pleading for a step back at this point. Fun, creativity and inspiration should come first again.
