The most beautiful mountain hotels in Switzerland

Summer is just around the corner and with it the season in which I prefer to stay in the Alpine region. There are plenty of secluded places here, and if the weather cooperates, the mountain summer is magnificent. Since I have discovered many beautiful places in the past three years and you often ask me for hotel tips by email, on Facebook or Twitter, I have put together my current favorite places. For inspiration for the next beautiful summer weekend in the Swiss mountains. Mountain hotels in Switzerland – from simple to luxurious. From easily accessible to secluded. For small or large wallets. For sporty people or connoisseurs. Inspiration for every taste!

1. Bollenwees Mountain Inn – Fjord Feelings

I can still remember the morning view from our small, cozy double room on the Fählensee. Pure magic. The mountain inn is located in the middle of the beautiful Alpstein on the shores of Lake Fählensee. Like a fjord, the mountain flanks rise steeply into the sky to the left and right. A beautiful hiking tour leads from the Hoher Kasten along the ridge to the Bollenwees mountain inn and at the other end of the lake there is a small alp with cheesemakers.

2. Hotel Wetterhorn Hasliberg – charmingly relaxed

The Hotel Wetterhorn puts you in a good mood. There is a young team at work here, concerts are regularly organized and the drinks not only sound original, but are really delicious. A hotel for gourmets who not only like to be pampered, but are also active on the road.

3. Alp Oberchäseren – schampar urchig

We searched in vain for the shower up here after a hot summer’s day, but we were served a fine platter and fish schnapps on the sun terrace. The Alp Oberchäseren has a simple mattress store. The alp is located directly on the Toggenburg High Trail, which leads from Wildhaus to Wil in six stages. Mattstock on the left, spear on the right – the mountain scenery up here is phenomenal.

4. Berghotel Obersteinberg – for romantics

Muscle power is required for the romantic moments at the Berghotel Obersteinberg. The rear Lauterbrunnen valley can only be reached on foot from Stechelberg. Anyone who, like us, hikes for two hours through pouring rain, appreciates the warming soup in the candlelight. The double rooms are simply furnished. As soon as it gets dark, candles are the only sources of light. The next morning, the hike can be continued in the direction of Oberhornsee or you can sit on the bench in front of the hotel and enjoy the peace and quiet.

5. Hotel Nest- und Bietschhorn – mountain hotel in Switzerland for connoisseurs

In the Lötschental hamlet of Ried, the stone-built house stands out among all the sun-tanned granaries. Hospitality has a long tradition at the Hotel Nest- und Bietschhorn. The hotel is well located for exploring the Lötschental on extended hiking tours. If you return to the hotel hungry, you will be spoiled by Chef Laurent Huber’s Cuisine Fraîcheur. The Michelin Guide has awarded his cuisine a Bib Gourmand.

6. Riffelhaus – mountain hotel with the most beautiful view

The Riffelhaus is located opposite the Matterhorn and offers the ultimate postcard view – when the mountain is not hiding behind the clouds. If you stay at the Riffelhaus, you will benefit from the great location in the middle of the extensive hiking and biking area around Zermatt. If you don’t mind getting up early, I recommend a morning hike to Lake Riffelsee to experience the sunrise with a view of the Matterhorn. One of the most beautiful mountain hotels in Switzerland.

7. Brücke 49 Vals – very chic!

If the rainy days get out of hand this summer, I recommend taking a detour to Vals. Of course, there are also countless kilometres of hiking trails to discover there. But once you’ve set foot over the threshold of Bridge 49, you won’t want to get out of there anytime soon. I boldly claim that Brücke 49 guarantees a good mood despite the nasty summer weather.

8. Lenk Lodge – simply casual

Our latest discovery: Ten individually designed rooms and a breakfast buffet that scores with regionality. Lenk Lodge is an uncomplicated place to go. If you are undecided about which hike suits you best or where the most beautiful bike trails are, ask the local Lenk Lodge team for tips. And if you return to the lodge after a sporty day, you can relax in a deck chair in the garden or snuggle up in front of the tiled stove on nice days.

9. Kurhaus Cademario – Wellness Fun

The Kurhaus Cademario is one of my most surprising hotel discoveries in recent years. Somehow, I had imagined something “conservative” under this name. But the Kurhaus Cademario is not only a great starting point for hikes in Malcantone. It inspires us with beautiful rooms, a wonderful view of Lake Lugano and a great wellness area.

10. Hotel Paradies – Mountain hotel in Graubünden

Admittedly, the larger wallet has to be pulled out here. But if you want to treat yourself, paradise is the right choice. The five-star hotel is located on the hiking trail from Ftan to Guarda – a classic and part of the Way of St. James Graubünden. The hotel includes the Chasa da Fö at 2,200 m above sea level. Here, amateur cooks are introduced to the art of regional cuisine by the kitchen team. In the evening, you can relax your tired muscles in the hot tub with a view of the Lower Engadine Dolomites and then feast on the gourmet restaurant Charn Alpina.
