Restaurant Schloss Oberhofen – enjoyment with a view

According to the motto “everything is new in spring”, the Schloss Oberhofen restaurant was reopened at the beginning of April. We took advantage of the beautiful weather on Sunday to inspect the new restaurant. There were two reasons for this – firstly, the restaurant is located in an exciting new building directly adjacent to the historic castle walls and secondly, you can perfectly enjoy the beautiful mountain panorama around Lake Thun from Oberhofen.

Actually, the plan was to take the bus from Thun to Oberhofen. As luck would have it, my train was delayed due to construction work, we missed the bus and thus chose the boat – which turned out to be much the better choice anyway. The ship was full to bursting (not only we wanted to enjoy the sun) and therefore we treated ourselves to a 1st class “upgrade” (costs 3.90 CHF ;) from Thun to Oberhofen with a 2nd class GA travelcard).

The boat trip took us past my favorite castle and offered a fantastic view of the mountains, which still have an amazing amount of snow (it was cold for a long time…). The pier in Oberhofen is right next to the castle and so we were quite happy about this 20-minute boat trip and the missed bus was long forgotten.

Oberhofen Castle does not open its doors until May, the new restaurant is located in an outbuilding that is 150 years old. For the new building, a simple cube with large window fronts was chosen, which blends in well with its surroundings. Thanks to the window fronts, guests can also enjoy a phenomenal panoramic view over Lake Thun – brunch with a view is guaranteed.

Next to the restaurant it has a small sun terrace with an equally fantastic view. We enjoyed a rhubarb pie with whipped cream (7 CHF) and a homemade passion fruit ice cream (5 CHF) – sun, mountain view, delicious food – a Sunday can’t be better, can it?

The restaurant has the following opening hours:

  • Tuesday – Wednesday from 10.00 a.m. – 11.00 p.m.
  • Thursday – Saturday 10.00 – 23.30
  • Sunday 10.00 – 17.00

On Sundays, there is a regional brunch buffet for 38 CHF – and as a fan of extensive brunch, I can’t imagine anything better than starting Sunday right here.
