Sanibel Island Dream
The dream of Sanibel Island can be bought with 6 dollars, which is how much the bridge toll from Fort Myers to the offshore dream island, which is known for beautiful beaches and one of the largest mussel deposits in the USA, costs. Of course, we didn’t let this dream pass us by and spent a real dream evening on the Gulf Coast.
We stayed at the Island Inn, a lovely older guesthouse-style hotel that’s right next to the beach. Booked through booking.com, we paid $275 for one night, which was pretty much the cheapest I found on the island for the fully booked Easter period. Regarding the buildings on Sanibel Island, it can be said that none may be taller than the tallest palm tree. These regulations have also meant that Sanibel Island never wanted to attract mass tourism, but is much more dedicated to soft tourism. The beaches are therefore not “overpopulated” and you prefer to travel by bike, which I think is great.
The variety of shells on the beach is indeed overwhelming. We’ve seen people collecting buckets with shovels. We left it at taking pictures and then enjoyed the unbelievably beautiful sunset.
