Snowshoeing in the Gantrisch Nature Park
This winter I went on so many great trips that I don’t even have time to write down all the ideas and tips. This excursion – a snowshoe hike through the Gantrisch Nature Park – is particularly close to my heart and that’s why I hope you still like winter pictures (at least the sun is still shining here, which is rather sparse at the moment).
Snowshoe hike in the Gantrisch Nature Park
The Gantrisch Nature Park is located just a few kilometres from my “old” home in the canton of Bern. The philosophy of the nature park is to sustainably promote both the local economy and nature. In winter, the Gantrisch area offers a wide range of winter sports activities – ski lifts, cross-country ski trails, winter hiking trails and a snowshoe trail.
We strapped our snowshoes to our feet that Sunday to try something new. The snowshoe trail starts at the Berghaus Gurnigelbad, which can be reached by post bus from Riggisberg or Schwarzenburg. Since the post buses run at irregular times, this area is much more easily accessible by car (and if I think that’s worth mentioning, that’s saying something…).
Gurnigel – Selibüel – Panorama Trail
The snowshoe trail is designed as a circular route and first leads via the Selibüel northern slope to the Gauchheit and from there over the Selibüelsattel to the viewpoint on the Schüpfenflueh. If you start early enough, you won’t meet a single person on the way and can enjoy the incredibly beautiful winter landscape in all its features. On the Schüpfenflueh it is worth taking a break and marvelling at the panorama over the Swiss Plateau.
The trail then leads back via Gauchheit and then leads steeply up to the Selibüel at 1,750 m above sea level. This last climb was a bit of a cramp, but I guarantee you, it’s worth it!
Key data of the snowshoe hike in the Gantrisch Nature Park
The circular route from the Gurnigel to the Schüpfenflue and back has a distance of about 6 kilometres and is also suitable for snowshoe beginners. You should plan 2.5 h to 3 h time for the route.
