Cape Town – In love with Cape Town – South Africa
Cape Town inspired me – in every way. During the landing approach, this enthusiasm was still limited, as I have not experienced such a restless flight for a long time. However, due to the strong winds, this is expected to happen more often. After we landed safely, we took a taxi to our accommodation. We had booked three nights at Ashanti Garden Lodge (double room). This hostel has dormitories as well as regular double rooms. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the standard was absolutely top. I can absolutely recommend this property.
Cape Town Downtown and Lion’s Head
The next morning we walked up to Lion’s Head. This “peak” is one of Cape Town’s landmarks, along with Table Mountain. On the ascent, Cape Town soon shows itself in all its splendor. The fascinating thing about this city is that it has great beaches as well as mountains and this creates a very special atmosphere. Cape Town Downtown itself is relatively small, so you can easily explore the city on foot. If you want to climb to the summit of Lion’s Head, you should not be afraid of heights and be prepared to climb a little. We decided shortly before the finish that this was a bit too tricky for us and enjoyed the view from a little below.
Afterwards we went via Cape Town Stadium, which should be known since the 2010 World Cup, to the Waterfront. This is a relatively touristy area but also really nice to stroll. It also has numerous delicious restaurants and shops. What is striking is that the event “World Design Capital Cape Town 2014” is advertised everywhere. This title is awarded to cities that use design for social, cultural and economic development. This commitment shows that Cape Town is developing into a trendy city and is positive for the future.
Another highlight the next day was the cable car up to Table Mountain. The whole thing costs about 175 Rand (just under 18 euros) for adults. You could also hike up, but the trails are quite challenging. Whether hiking up or driving up, the view from above is always worth 18 euros!
