Thailand – Snapshot of James Bond Rock
Since Switzerland is still snow-covered and the temperatures are really low, I can use some warmth. That’s why I chose a picture of the James Bond rock from my first trip to Thailand for the current snapshot photo. Have you had enough of the winter temperatures and can hardly wait for the first warm rays of sunshine?
The 20 meter tall “islet” you see in the picture is called Ko Tapu – Needle Rock – is a part of the Khao Phing Kan Islands in Phang Nga Bay. The islands are part of the Ao Phang Nga National Park and have been world famous since 1974 due to the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun”. By the way, in the James Bond movie you get the feeling that the island is quite big. In reality, it has a diameter of only 4 meters at sea level and widens to 8 meters towards the top.
Before the James Bond film was filmed, the islands were part of a natural bay where many clock inhabitants lived. Today it is one of the main attractions of the area and therefore relatively touristy. The boat trip through the national park is still very impressive due to the many bizarrely shaped sandstone formations and if you visit the area, it is worth saving some time for it.
Where is the James Bond rock located?
The “James Bond Rock”, also known as Ko Tapu, is a prominent limestone rock in Phang Nga Bay in Thailand. He was made famous by the 1974 James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun”, in which he served as a backdrop. Since then, it has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting numerous visitors who want to see the famous rock and the surrounding picturesque bay. The island where the rock is located is often referred to as “James Bond Island”, although its real name is “Koh Ping Kan“.
