Where is the most beautiful Swiss autumn?

Autumn is an inspiring season. Sometimes the warm afternoon sun tickles the back of our necks, sometimes “hudlets and chutets” and sometimes the persistent high fog drives us into sheer despair. What I like about autumn are the rich colours, the soft light and the clear view. The sun no longer shines as brightly as it did in July and August. A wonderful season to discover nature and spend the grey days on the sofa with a good book and a cuddly blanket. But where is the most beautiful Swiss autumn? I’ve put together a list of my favorites for you today and of course I’m looking forward to additional tips.

In the vineyards

In the Seeland, the leisurely hike from Biel to La Neuveville through the vineyards along Lake Biel beckons. Depending on your mood, the hike can be interrupted along the way. Beautiful views are also guaranteed on the hike through the Lavaux vineyards from Lausanne to Vevey. And if the weather is more unstable, then I can recommend a detour to the Aigle Wine Museum.

Where the spruce forests glow yellow

The larches transform the landscapes of Valais and Engadine into a bright yellow backdrop in autumn. This can be experienced, for example, on a hike in the Derborence or on the 5-lake tour in Zermatt. If you prefer the Engadine to Valais, it’s best to plan a detour to the Swiss National Park. A beautiful but strenuous tour leads to the Lais da Macun.

Autumn in the fog

The fog thing is one of those things. Personally, I really like the foggy moods, but it would be just as nice if it would disappear punctually when arriving at the viewpoint. Beautiful foggy moods can be experienced in the morning hours in the Swiss Plateau.

Nebel

above the fog

Sometimes it’s not that hard to escape the sea of fog. It may well be that Zurich is groaning under the blanket of fog and the sun is shining on top of the Albis mountain range. My tip: take a look at the webcams of the peaks (here the Uetliberg) in your vicinity and spontaneously plan a half-day trip to replenish your vitamin D stores.

Autumn in the chestnut forest

Autumn is chestnut time. If you still have a free weekend in your calendar, take the opportunity for a short trip to Ticino. For example, the Sentiero del Castagno in Malcantone leads past gnarled old chestnut trees.

Coffee and cake

Autumnal rainy days are perfect for sleeping in until noon and then spending the afternoon chatting with friends over coffee and cake. And all this without the nagging “I’m missing out on something” feeling.

Kaffeeklatsch

In the bubble bath

Tense neck muscles, lack of energy or simply the desire to treat yourself to quality time. Rainy autumn weekends are also perfect for this. My favourite in the city of Zurich is the Thermalbad & Spa in the Hürlimann area. A wellness oasis high above the rooftops of the city. Relaxation is also guaranteed at the Tamina Therme in Bad Ragaz. This excursion can be combined with a trip to the Tamina Gorge – easily doable in rainy weather. If you like to treat yourself to a wellness weekend, I can recommend the Kurhaus Cademario or the Schweizerhof Lenzerheide (with its stylish hammam). Private, exclusive wellness enjoyment is provided in the spa cottages in Park Weggis. There, the hot tub does not have to be shared with anyone.

Wellness

On sunny afternoon walks

Rustling leaves, sunbeams, bright colors. Autumn walks can be so beautiful. If you live in the Bern region, you will find a beautiful, relaxing backdrop on the Alte Aare. For those living in Zurich, I recommend a detour to the Sihlwald.

In case of continuous rain

Even when it rains continuously, nature delights with grandiose subjects. In between, just change the point of view.

At lonely mountain lakes

I don’t know where all the migratory birds disappear to in autumn. The fact is, even in the most glorious autumn weather, it can happen that you don’t meet a soul in the mountains. This statement will not apply to the Klöntalersee. In the meantime, word has gotten around that he is a beautiful photo subject for Indian Summer pictures. Nevertheless, I can recommend a day trip to the Glarus region. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you can hike to the Hinterburgseeli on the Axalp or to the Cresta Lake near Flims. Both are also beautiful photo spots for autumn pictures.
