Advent tip – Trier Christmas market

After I introduced you to the Montreux Noel last week, this week I have the next Christmas market tip just in time for the second Advent. Germany and its Christmas markets – a successful team in the run-up to Christmas. Lists of the “most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany” are published regularly. The Trier Christmas market would never have caught my eye on such a list. But that doesn’t stop the organizer from advertising it on the website as “one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany”. Of course, our expectations were correspondingly high.

The Christmas market takes place every year on the main market square and the adjacent Domfreihof. The beautifully decorated wooden stalls are located in the middle of the beautiful old town scenery of Trier. The stalls mainly sell hand-made wooden toys, candles, glasses, ceramics and other gifts. About 50% of the stalls cover the culinary well-being of the guests. Visitors to the Christmas market also gather around these stalls in the early evening. In any case, the Trier Christmas market enjoys such great popularity that the alleys between the stalls are packed to the brim in the evening. Getting through quickly? Not a chance.

By the way, the market is opened by the mulled wine queen and the mulled wine served is produced by regionally based winegrowers.

For the eye and the palate, the Christmas market in Trier is really a delight. I especially liked the ambience around the main market. The crowds in the evening were a bit too much for me personally. If you want to take a leisurely stroll from stall to stall, it is better to pay a visit to the Christmas market in the early afternoon. The mulled wine is available for 2.50 euros and you definitely shouldn’t miss it. Predicate dangerously good!
