Schweizerhof Lenzerheide – where the guest is kingSchweizerhof Lenzerheide – where the guest is king

“Did you arrive by car?” the nice receptionist asks us when we check in at the Hotel Schweizerhof Lenzerheide.

This question always makes me a bit jittery. I’m really upset about the fact that hotels are so car-oriented and that you are usually covered with parking tickets without being asked if you are traveling by car at all. Due to the lack of a car, 99% of our travel is by train. Lenzerheide can be easily reached from Zurich in two hours by public transport with a single change in Chur. The Schweizerhof is located directly opposite the Lenzerheide Post bus station and is therefore ideally located for going on a skiing holiday without a car.

It’s the little things
“No, we arrived by public transport,” I reply, slightly desperate. And now comes the surprise, because the Schweizerhof Lenzerheide thinks travelling by public transport is a good thing and therefore the guests are rewarded. We can choose between a voucher for a snowshoe rental or toboggan rental including a drink. I’ve only been in this hotel for five minutes and I’m already blown away. Dear hotels in the world, it’s so easy to surprise guests in a positive way!

Afterwards we are escorted through a winding system of corridors and buildings to our room. Will I find “my” ski room there the next day…? Of the total of 80 rooms, there are 28 so-called alpine chic rooms and we are accommodated in exactly one of them.

Cosiness and naturalness
At first glance, the spacious and open floor plan catches the eye. Bathroom and bedroom are separated from each other only by a wooden wall. The sofa and armchair invite you to linger and small details – such as the wooden ibex – round off the harmonious overall impression.

Around the Navelstein – Hammam at the Hotel Schweizerhof

Before dinner, there is still some time to enjoy the 1,500 m2 wellness area with the largest hotel hammam in the Alpine region. We slip into the nice felt slippers (which, by the way, now warm my feet at home, as you are asked to take them home with ;)) and take the lift down to the wellness area.

First, we dive into the sensual world of the hammam. Architect Max Dudler has created a real gem here. It is a place of silence that invites you to relax. Afterwards we explore the sauna area and the various baths. But the hammam is definitely the ultimate. To help you be prepared for your visit to the Schweizerhof, here is the little hammam ABC:

From mountain to valley Culinary delights
are not neglected either. We have half board – which means that we can feast our way through six outstanding courses in the evening. The guest has the choice between the “normal” dishes or the Graubünden specialties. I’m trying capuns for the first time and I’m thrilled. The meal on Saturday is rounded off with a dessert buffet, the sight of which will make you think you have landed in paradise.

Over 100 years of hospitality
The Schweizerhof looks back on a long hotel history. Both in the rooms and in the common areas, there are nostalgic elements to discover. In combination with the modern appearance, this results in a charming overall impression. The bar next to the reception is particularly cosy.

Also in terms of hospitality, the Schweizerhof convinces me in all respects. Here, the guest is king and you can let him feel it.

From our room we have a direct view of the summit of the Rothorn. Since this January, Lenzerheide has had a whole new trump card up its sleeve. The new Urdenbahn connects the Lenzerheide ski area with Arosa. Nothing stands in the way of a sporty day of skiing. Or almost nothing, because before we hit the slopes, we fortify ourselves properly at the rich breakfast buffet.
