Story time today
When I meet people I met through blogging for the first time “in real life”, I am often confronted with the following accusation: “you don’t know exactly what you look like” (question: Is it really that important?!) or “I was looking for pictures of you on the blog, but only found the feet and the back of the head”. Others think it’s not personal enough. Well, I’m resistant to advice on this topic. I’d rather hold the camera in my hands than have my picture taken. That’s why only a few snapshots of me will be shown here in the future. My experiences on the road (be it Switzerland, Europe or overseas) are also in the foreground. I’ll admit, I’m stingy when it comes to talking out of the box.
Today I’m going to give this principle a little break again, because I have to answer a whole series of questions that were asked to me by Fränzi from the blog umdieweltreise and on the other hand by Stefan from Blog reisepaar. Well then:
- Where, where can you best work on your blog? And why?
At home at my desk. I’m not a so-called “digital nomad” at all and I’m usually terribly unproductive on the road. Why? Because everything is always so beautiful on the road that my gaze keeps getting lost in the surroundings and my thoughts don’t allow for any writing work.
- If you could be a superhero, what would it be?
Pippi Longstocking.
- What are you most looking forward to this year?
Wow, I’m going to pretend to be wise and say: Carpe Diem! Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
- What do you enjoy most about blogging?
To inspire people and be my own boss.
- What would you immediately drop everything for?
Spontaneity has never been my strong suit… So I guess I would always think first and then act… But you never know!
- What has been your best moment in the last four weeks?
The tent night at 2,300 m above sea level (Mittagerhütte, Merano 2000).
- What’s your favorite time of year?
Spring – in May, when the leaf buds slowly curl up and the trees shine in a delicate light green.
- What do you like most about your blog? Are you still planning a big change?
That the pictures are in focus and that there is no picture of me on the home page ;) There are no “big” changes planned at the moment – but there is always some tinkering around.
- What has been your biggest adventure so far?
Two months in Central America with backpack and bus. Carefree and without travel preparations (I opened the guidebook on the plane for the first time).
- What language would you like to learn?
Russian. On the first try, I gave up after two weeks.
- Are you a city or country person?
Uprooted country man who now lives in the city. It’s ok. – But this is the real home:
- Which destination impressed you the most and why?
Guatemala. The country is incredibly diverse and beautiful. I had only positive experiences throughout, although the media (and at that time even the Lonelyplanet) warned about how dangerous it can be.
- If money and time were no object, where would you go and why?
Once with a rickety VW bus and the perfect playlist down the entire Panamericana – from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. A route with many different faces, beautiful landscapes, mountains, coasts, big cities and uninhabited sections.
- What makes the perfect travel destination for you?
Perfect? Difficult. For example, many people find Thailand perfect. I thought it was terrible. I don’t think you can plan perfectly – it always happens spontaneously and usually where you least expect it. It has to touch my heart.
- If you had the opportunity to travel non-stop for five years from today without returning to your home country, would you do it?
No. Five years without ever setting foot in Switzerland is not a great deal, I think. I love to travel. But I also like to come home again and again.
- Describe your perfect travel day.
Perfect travel days include good food, pleasant weather, heartwarming encounters, and lots of joy.
- Has a trip changed or shaped you? If so, in what way?
Hmmmm, I don’t think it’s really changed. I have rather developed an awareness of how beautiful we actually have it here in Switzerland and in nearby countries (e.g. the beautiful Dolomites) and you don’t always need a long-haul flight to see beautiful landscapes or experience an adventure.
- Finally, post a photo with the contents of your daypack (or handbag).
There is a (slightly older) handbag picture, as I am currently either with a handbag or a ski backpack. P.S. Camera (today: Sony RX100) and mobile phone (now Sony Xperia Z) have been replaced in the meantime.
