Hike architecture

If you read my blog entries regularly, you know that I have a flair for exciting architecture in addition to traveling. Of course, I like it most when travel and architecture can be combined. Recently, I came across the book “Hiking Architecture”, which makes exactly this connection and describes great hiking routes. The book presents tours of modern Swiss architecture in the foothills of the Alps and Alps.

Hiking in Architecture is divided into two volumes. In both volumes, a total of 31 hiking routes are described in detail, which lead through breathtaking landscapes past contemporary architectural treasures. The routes are spread over the whole of Switzerland and nearby countries (Germany and Austria). In addition to the route description, floor plans and sections of the buildings are also depicted and the history of the buildings is explained.

A very nice 3-hour hiking route leads between Crans-Montana and Mollens (Valais) past the traditional irrigation canals to the modern visitor centre at the Cave de Colombire. The Cave de Colombire is actually an open-air museum with many rustic alpine huts. The new building, designed by frundgallina architects, sets a point of contrast in the homely surroundings. Particularly striking are the two impressive panoramic windows that can be seen in the photos. It is exciting to see how the architects have adapted the building to the terrain and, in my opinion, how a harmonious appearance has been created. In addition to the great panorama, you can also enjoy very delicious food on the terrace of the visitor center.

Conclusion: Great book that combines nature and architecture in an exciting way, gives many new excursion ideas and definitely belongs on every bookshelf of architecture enthusiasts (or vice versa).
